Sundays at St Catharine's
The services at St Catharine’s cater for a range of styles; the common thread is the commitment to meeting with God together, glorifying him in our worship, and listening to what he has to say to us.
9am Communion Service
There is a traditional feel to our said communion service, which takes place every week except for the first Sunday in the month.
10.30am Family Worship
This is our main gathering on a Sunday, including a mix of worship styles and a Bible-based sermon. There are children’s groups except on the second Sunday of the month when we stay together for All-Age Worship; and we celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of every month.
Messy Church takes place once a month just across the road in Houghton Village Hall; it's the first Sunday of the month from 4pm-5.30pm, with crafts, games, activities, a short celebration, and a hot meal to finish! We have a page dedicated to everything about messy church.
Our children’s groups are Kids’ Church (up to school year 5), and SCYPE (Year 6+) both of which meet during the 10.30am service at Houghton CE primary school. Children join in with the first part of the service, then head out with their leaders for their own activities, re-joining us in church for refreshments after the service.
At the heart of all that we do is the conviction that God speaks whenever the Bible is opened and heard. We are therefore committed to giving it a central place whenever we meet together, in church together on Sundays, and in smaller groups through the week; so that we might know Christ for ourselves, and be equipped to make him known to others.
